Do they eventually build up? August 30, 2007

I have a real issue with wanting, no, needing to laugh when laughing just isn’t appropriate.  When I was younger, I went to church with my childhood friend Jamie.  She went to the big Baptist church downtown and I was going just because she was going.  During the sermons, we would draw and write each other notes and play games.  It never failed that something would start us to giggling and then we couldn’t stop and then I’d have to pee and that would make me giggle more and then we’d get nasty looks from her mom and that would give that awkward “I was just laughing so hard but now the mood has been killed but my face hurts” last giggle.

I thought I was supposed to grow out of this stuff but alas, I am having the same problem.  It isn’t much in church anymore but other serious situations.  For example, Spiritual Direction:  We begin with a serious meditation and prayer time and then move into discussion.  The woman who runs the group is for one, the sweetest person alive but she also has a very soft, soothing and monotone voice.  My friend Catt and I have discussed the way she says the same things over and over and how it never fails for her to say things like, “I am so glad you can all be here.” and ” I am glad you shared that with us.” So now, when she says it, Catt and I have to avoid looking at each other or we will laugh out loud.

Or our friend Tyler who would, while having our normal hanging out imes (ie. watching movies, going to concerts) would lean over and put his hand on your knee and say, “I just wanted you to know I love you.” and he was very serious about this enderment.  Wil and I had a hard time with that one.

In Yoga, there’s ALWAYS something to laugh at.  Of course it would be totally inappropriate because “our bodies are like a work of art and everything about them is natural.”  Well, when the old man three people down is grunting SO loud that it sounds a bit sexual and the girl next to me squeaks out a fart, I have to bust a sideways smile and hope it doesn’t form into laughter.

Speaking of something funny.  My friend Marcy wrote the most hilarious post on her blog (which is linked to mine) about poop and pools……..

I have a dream catcher over mine and Wil’s bed.  I can’t remember the last time I had a bad dream but I also can’t remember many dreams at all.  This past friday, I spent the night at the Dean’s house watchin over his two teenage sons.  By-the-way, teenage sitting is the easiest job you’ll ever have.  Back to the night:  I went to bed fairley early since they were watching Ben10 and it was NOT interesting what -so -ever. I awoke at about 1am having had this dream:

I was in a bus.  Myself and a group of people were looking out the bus window when all of a sudden, the actor that played Zack Morris walked by and you could tell he thought he was all that and a slice of sharp cheddar.  I happened to be wearing the shirt seen here:

Keep in my mind that this was Zack Morris has he would be today within my imagination and not when he was on the show and plus, I wouldn’t kiss a teeanger…yuck!  Anywho, he comes over to the window which is magically the right height and he kisses me and then wants to make out but it isn’t a good thing and I’m all whippin out the wedding ring and, with the dimples all going,  he moved on to the person behind me.

Saved by the bell was one of the best shows I watched when I was a kid.  I loved how Lisa played the 80’s inspired bass guitar but in actuality, she kinda just hit the strings and how Slater could “dance” but it was really more ballet.  And has anyone ever noticed how the taller, more husky gals always play weird, girl power types like Phoebe on friends and of course Jessie or “mama” as slater liked to call her? She of course became famous later for her roll in Show Girls……

Moral:  make a dream catcher and put it over your bed stat or you may be kissing

Do fish freak you out? August 6, 2007

I spent the weekend catching up with old friends on the lake.  It was so wonderful, perfect weather, great company, good food, yummy drinks……it was just the girl time my soul has been needing.  I haven’t seen Erin and Sarah since January and I hadn’t seen Cyndi in atleast a year so I had fear that we would have changed, that we couldn’t talk about personal stuff or gripe about our men without being judged or taken to seriously.  All my fears were gone when we hopped on that boat and it was like time hadn’t passed.  I know we’re getting older because the topics have changed.  From parties and gossip to babies and future plans.  I miss my girl- friends.  They are like that old sparkly shoe that fits just right and goes with everything. Till next time…….
